A new food truck parked just steps away from school has quickly become a popular
stop for students looking to get a meal during lunch. With people waiting in line almost
everyday, many students are curious about the food truck and what its presence means
for QHSS.
Many students say the food truck wasn’t something they expected to see in this
location, but in hindsight, its placement makes sense.
“I was surprised at first because I didn’t think this would exactly be the best spot to get
customers,” said a student who regularly visits the truck. “But it honestly makes sense;
there’s always students passing to and from here from school, making it a good place
for profit. And when the ice cream truck used to be here during the summer, lots of
students went since it was in such close proximity.”
When it comes to the menu, early student reviews have been largely positive. Students
highlight both flavor and portion size as major selling points.
“I like it; it’s a bit pricey but reasonable,” another regular added. “My favorite item from
the truck is their chicken over rice and their chicken kebabs. It’s very savory, they give a
generous amount of sauce, and the salad’s really balanced and has a bit of everything.”
The food truck owner noted that their most popular item would have to be their chicken
over rice since it is one of their main specialties. However, student feedback suggests
that lamb over rice may be the item that dominates the lunchtime rush.
However, students note that service times can vary depending on the size of the
crowd. The regular explained that orders can come out extremely quickly, sometimes
within a few minutes or so, but during peak times, waits can stretch up to 15–20
minutes. Pricing is considered reasonable by many students, but for those on a tighter
budget, the food truck may be better suited as an occasional treat.
But what does this mean for QHSS?
As one of the smallest Specialized High Schools, QHSS has limited food options and no
real cafeteria of its own. For students who rely on homemade lunches or the cafeteria
with limited offerings, the arrival of the food truck provides a new and convenient source
of variety. Due to its small size and limited resources, QHSS cannot offer the same amenities as larger schools. As a result, the food truck has become one of the few
everyday conveniences students can enjoy, something not every high school has
waiting just outside its doors.
Although the food truck’s presence may not be permanent, it has quickly become a
welcome addition to student life, giving students a reliable spot to grab a real meal
without having to travel far.
