QHSS Excels at MIST Competition

The Muslim Interscholastic Tournament (MIST) has been a staple competition throughout QHSS history. This annual event offers students the opportunity to participate in various engaging and vibrant competitions from sports such as basketball and volleyball to more creative competitions such as Business Venture, spoken word, and poetry. MIST also serves as a conduit to increase school spirit and camaraderie, with student participants encouraged to bolster their school’s image and cheer on their peers.

Throughout the years, QHSS students have made significant waves in the MIST tournaments, competing in and winning various trophies and medals. One significant example is the Business Venture team of 2023, which won first place in their category, outperforming all other
specialized high schools.

This year, QHSS brought the same competitive and optimistic energy to MIST, with more students taking part in a wide variety of events and winning another set of competitions.

Although QHSS has a significantly smaller population with fewer representatives than other high schools, they were still able to secure several wins including:

1st place in Quranic recitation, Asiya Ehsan
2nd place in poetry, Ariana SL Hoosein
2nd place in Scrapbook, Afia Mohsin and Asiya Ehsan
3rd place in digital art, Musfirat Nusaibah
3rd place in debate, Alesha Rafi and Asiya Ehsan.
Award for Good Conduct.

The coveted Good Conduct award was bestowed upon students from QHSS, as they demonstrated exceptional moral and ethical qualities, such as integrity, compassion, leadership, and respect for others throughout the competition. The reaction among QHSS competitors was one of surprise and celebration. One of the competitors, Asiya Ehsan, while expressing her enthusiasm for excelling says “I’m really honored.”

Zakariya Hoosein from the business venture team said “The competition helps to prepare us for the real world since the winning team also secures an internship during the summer.”

The competition is open to all high schoolers regardless of religious background. Mist Nationals 2024 will be held in Georgia Institute of Technology, from July 26th to July 28th.
