For the first time in over seven years, our school’s spring dance proved to be a memorable and fun-filled evening for the graduating class. The dance took place on March 28 at York College in the multipurpose room. This year’s theme was “City Lights” which was chosen by the committee members to best represent the school. The prom was organized by the Senior Council, with the help of PTA members. There were extensive preparations for the event, such as securing the venue by making sure there were enough people attending, processing payments, sending the invitations, purchasing the treats and activities.
Arriving at the party, the students were treated to an assortment of snacks, fun decor, delicious margarita-style pizza, and complete with a photobooth loaded with accessories. Most of the kids took advantage of the fun background to take photos with friends, faculty, and their dates. In terms of food, the dance catered pizza with more than enough for everyone, though there was a general consensus regarding an over-emphasis on packaged snacks. On beverages, the attendees enjoyed drinks from our honorary mixologist of the night, Alex Agris, who made signature non-alcoholic drinks with sprite and sweet syrups.
Desserts included a chocolate fountain and an ice cream bar that was decked with different topping types. Of particular interest was the photo booth set up at the dance, which had accompanying props consisting of signs, masks, hats, and even a viking helmet. Both students and faculty enjoyed and took advantage of this service with many attendees leaving with photo strips in their hands.
As always, the best dancer was chosen. This year saw Debjanee Barman being picked with overwhelming support, Matthew Grier in close second. The music brought together friends in an expressive celebration of four completed years of high school. For many, it was refreshing to witness some come out of their comfort zone and break out moves on the dance floor. The 2024 Spring Dance was a night in which all the different grades celebrated with friends and faculty, a great break for the stress of end-of-semester exams. For most, it was a special night filled with intense energy, fun, and great moments – truly the night of all nights.
