QHSS welcomes new Assistant Principal Mrs. Faucher

In the beginning of April, new teacher Mrs. Ashley Faucher joins the QHSS staff community as an incoming assistant principal. She will be responsible for supervising the humanities department, consisting of the english, social studies, world languages, music, and art classes. She will also be working with the club members of BSU (Black Student Union) and the Latinx Club, however she would love to explore and meet with all the other clubs the school has to offer.

Growing up Mrs. Faucher always had a passion for education and literature. Despite the neighborhood she grew up in, her parents always stressed for a high quality education.

“…My parents would send me to schools two hours away from home…what really stuck with me was the importance of quality education.” said Mrs. Faucher.

Therefore, as soon as she got to college, she knew that she wanted to pursue a career in education, to provide the same opportunities her parents gave to the next generation of students. After education, she started working in the education field, as she’s been educating for over fifteen years and a teacher for over ten years. Before taking on her role as an assistant principal, she was once an English teacher at her previous high school, teaching English classes of all high school students. From AP Language and Literature to AP Afro American studies, she taught a variety of classes to all high school students, as she mentioned that she wanted the exposure of multiple learning styles. One of her favorite memories as an educator was graduation at St. Johns University, as she was able to witness a pivotal moment of transition of the high school students.

Despite her prolonged career as an English teacher, Mrs. Faucher received an offer as an assistant principal of QHSS under the humanities department and couldn’t turn down the opportunity. Her first few weeks at QHSS have been amazing, as she quotes that the students were all very welcoming and inviting. Although the transition has been riveting, as she came from a large school, her overall experience has been positive. Despite the huge changes, she’s been able to continue her passion projects working under clubs aiming to empower racial identities, such as BSU (Black Student Union) and the Latinx Club. She stresses the attention of student needs, as she hopes to explore all the other clubs the students are operating and ensures that the students are having the best experience possible. Similar to her parent’s wishes, Mrs. Faucher is a constant advocate for education equity, as she strives to provide adequate resources and high quality education, especially for high school students.

Outside of her office, you can catch Mrs. Faucher going to museums and taking walks with her dog. With the warm weather coming to New York City, she hopes to be outside as much as possible. As a Queens native, she’s excited for all the fun events, such as the Queens Night Market.

As the school year closes, Mrs. Faucher is excited for all the end of year activities, such as prom and graduation. She started her position during the start of the stressful AP exam season, so she’s excited to see students on the opposite side of the spectrum. She’s also excited about the upcoming school year and being able to start fresh.
