What makes QHSS stand out for its students? A few of you readers may have said the amazing teachers or the compact building it takes place on or perhaps even the school work we get assigned. But amidst all of these features, it’s easy to forget why QHSS has a notably tight community. As a school, we should be grateful for having fun trips and creative annual events, such as the Halloween event and Harry Potter Trip. So with that being said, here’s a quick recap of the Halloween Parade 2023!
The competitions remained fairly the same yet with an interesting mix of winners. With sophomores winning the mummy wrapping competition. Some other notable costumes were ghostface portrayed by Ravena K. who won scariest costume and a hotdog portrayed by Jasman M., who won the funniest costume. Moreover, the KPOP Dance club performed wonderfully with songs As If It’s Your Last by BLACKPINK, and What is Love by Twice.
The event was a hit! However one minor downside noted by freshman Motahshimah was that, “the weather was really cold, but that was the only downside and other than that it was really fun and enjoyable.” She notes that specific parts of the event she liked seeing was people cheering and hyping up their peers who went up to the costume competition because it shows the supportive nature of QHSS despite being categorized as a specialized high school.
Moreover, Sabah Karim, a sophomore, said that she felt events bring out the inner diversity of QHSS which can be accounted for why many people were able to enjoy the event. Events such as this, help create a safe environment for people of color who may not used to be included hence it’s important to help participate in them and keep them going.
